Research Areas:

1.     MHD waves and oscillations in coronal loops Identification of various wave modes using imaging and spectroscopic observations; Interpretation of trigger, excitation, and damping mechanisms of the waves in terms of theory and MHD simulations; Development of coronal seismology (a diagnostic tool for determination of unknown coronal parameters) based on new results.

2.     Magnetic activity and coronal heating By analyzing various impulsive events such as flares, CMEs, and jets, understand the buildup and release mechanisms of nonpotential magnetic energy in the solar atmosphere. Explore sources for the coronal heating such as nanoflares and MHD waves.

3.     Determination of coronal density and its applications Determine the electron density of coronal structures using the spectroscopy from  coronal emissions and using the spherically symmetric inversion and tomography  methods from the polarized brightness of white lights. Use the derived coronal density to interpret EUV waves, shocks and radio bursts in CMEs, and to study the long-term evolution of coronal mass with solar cycles.
